Saint Joseph’s Shankill is hosting a free Caring for Carers training programme this Autumn, specifically for family carers who look after people living with dementia at home. Carers living in South Dublin and North Wicklow are welcome to apply.

Saint Joseph’s Shankill will offer respite services for carers so that they attend for training worry-free. The programme will take place in Saint Joseph’s Shankill.

The programme aims to equip carers with the tools to cope with the stress of caring for someone with dementia, and the ability to access the support systems to assist them in that caring role. Carers will gain a deeper understanding of the feelings and needs of people with dementia, ultimately leading to better relationships and quality of life for themselves and their loved ones living with dementia.

Topics include:

a. Information about dementia
b. How best to communicate with someone living with dementia
c. How to manage your stress and worries
d. Where to access support, services or help
